Course Overview
The Pearson BTEC International Level 2 in Information Technology provides learners with an applied and practical introduction to IT. It develops foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in areas such as data handling, technology systems, networking, programming, website and app development, digital graphics, games design, and databases.
These qualifications are designed mainly for learners aged 14–19 and support progression to Level 3 / pre-tertiary education or junior roles in IT.
International Equivalence
The Level 2 Diploma size is 480 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and is equivalent in size to four International GCSEs. Other sizes are equivalent to 1–3 International GCSEs depending on GLH.
- UK: Comparable in size to GCSE-level study (qualification size dependent).
- International Recognition: Designed to support progression to Level 3 / pre-tertiary routes.
- Middle East: Commonly aligned with upper secondary (Grade 10–11) pathways (size dependent).
Program Structure
Available qualification sizes in this suite:
- Award – 120 GLH (2 units, including 1 Pearson Set Assignment unit)
- Certificate – 240 GLH (4 units, including 1 Pearson Set Assignment unit)
- Extended Certificate – 360 GLH (6 units, including 2 Pearson Set Assignment units)
- Diploma – 480 GLH (at least 8 units, including 2 Pearson Set Assignment units)

- Completion of Grade 9 or equivalent.
- No specific GPA requirement.
- Simple interview to assess language proficiency and student level.
