About the TOEFL
The TOEFL is a test to measure your ability to understand and use the English language at the university level. The purpose of the TOEFL is to evaluate how well you perform in academic tasks and combine your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
Who Takes the TOEFL? And why?
The TOEFL test includes a plenty of advantages that help you stand out from other applicants. It is more popular with students in the US and Canadian universities than all other English-language tests combined. It is also more preferred by in the United States, France and Germany, and other graduate programs in Canada.
More than 10,000 universities and other institutions worldwide accept TOEFL scores. In other words, Students plan to take the TOEFL to study at a higher education institution, to be granted a Scholarship and certification, for program admissions and exit, and most importantly for students and workers applying for visas.
What is on the TOEFL? And how long?
There are four TOEFL sections:
Listening: 34–51 questions. The candidate listens to classroom discussions, lectures, and conversations, after that candidate answers the questions. 60–90 minutes
Reading: 36–56 questions Read 3 or 4 passages from academic texts and answer questions. 60–80 minutes
Writing: Responses based on reading and listening tasks; support an opinion in writing. 50 minutes 2 tasks
Speaking: The candidate needs to express an opinion about a familiar topic; speaking based on listening and reading tasks. 20 minutes and 6 tasks
The candidate has a break of 10 minutes between the listening and reading and the speaking and writing.
What is the difference between (iBT TOEFL) and (PBT TOEFL)?
TOEFL tests are of two kinds: (iBT) an electronic version and (PBT) a paper version.
How is the TOEFL scored?
It is 100% fair and unbiased scoring. Multiple human raters who do not know test takers’ identities are used in the crucial speaking section. Thus, there are not unfair TOEFL test centres, because the tests aren’t scored in the centres; however, tests are only scored through a network of centralized scoring. This, consequently, prevents the bias that may occur in some tests that use a single rater face-to-face interview with the candidate.
